(Ans) The primary improvement on the 5560A, 5550A and 5540A will be its capability to support continuous ac and dc current up to 30 Amp, improved Test uncertainty Ratio (TUR) that facilitates calibrating 6½ digits electrical measuring instruments directly without using any transfer standards, adding inductance generation as the new output function, reverse power protection mechanism to protect the calibrator, improved user experience at its intrusive touch-screen menus, Visual Connection Management (VCM) with luminated output terminals for the selected functions, ‘re-ranging’ the output functions for small resolution to achieve improved total accuracy. Not to mention its supportability of future expansion in scope calibration (SC) option up to 2.1GHz and extended AC and DC current up to 100A, by a close-loop configuration with a transconductance amplifier.

(Ans) The available communication ports, which were strategically located at the rear panel of the 5560A/5550A/5540A are GPIB-IEEE, Ethernet, RS-232 Serial & USB. They can be easily configured at the SetUp menu of the calibrator.

(Ans) Unlike the 8588A, the 5560A/5550A/5540A does not have rear terminals. All the connection with the Unit-Under-Test (UUT) is to be made at the front panels.

(Ans) Most of the compatible thermocouple connectors, which usually come in bare wire, mini or micro connector can be easily plugged to and securely held by the patented spring-loaded terminals.

(Ans) The standard accessories that supplied together with a new 5560A/5550A/5540A (Basic) are 55XX/LEADS, 55XX/CASE. It also come with one-year standard warranty and one set of accredited calibration certificate and full set of calibrated readings. For 5560A/5550A/5540A installed with the Scope Calibration (SC) Option, a scope calibration cable will be provided.

(Ans) The optional accessories which can be ordered separately are 55XXA/COIL 10, 55XXA/COIL 50, 55XXA/DMMCAL and 55XXA/PORTKIT. More details can be obtained at the FlukeCAL website / product brochure.

(Ans) These older coils can be used with the 5560A, 5550A or 5540A but with the following important considerations in mind:-
  • Continuous current is only possible up to 11A for the older current coil.
  • Any current above 11A (and < 20A) applied to these coils should be restricted no more than 120 seconds.
  • Cool down duration of 8 minutes is needed after applying high current to the coil.
  • Injecting current of above 20A is highly not recommended - as it’ll cause irreversible damage to your old coils.

(Ans) AC voltage of 100V to 240V at the frequency between 47Hz and 63Hz is the requirement to energize the 5560A/5550A/5540A.

(Ans) The technical performance of the 5560A, 5550A and 5540A are provided in 1-year specification at 95% and 99% confidence level. In addition, 90-days specification are included for the 5560A and 5550A and 2-Years specification is provided for the 5560A.

(Ans) The 17025-accredited calibration certificate, under the approval by A2LA or NvLAP with a report of full set of calibration readings will be shipped as standard together with the new calibrator.

(Ans) Technically different from the Fluke 5730A, there is no emulation mode or device mapping function for the 5560A/5550A/5540A to emulate 5522A/5502A or any older calibrator series.

(Ans) MET/CAL Version 10.6.2 will come with the Function Select Code (FSC) for the 5560A, 5550A and 5540A included. Existing MET/CAL user is recommended to upgrade his/her existing MET/CAL to the latest version to enjoy this exciting feature in operating with the 5560A/5550A/5540A effortlessly.

(Ans) The current MET/CAL procedure written for 5502A/5522A will not be compatible with the 5560A/5550A/5540A due to its difference in functions, ranges and performance. A new application notes and technical guide that details on how to convert your old procedures with new FSC will be published shortly.

(Ans) It is not possible to upgrade the 5522A to 5550A/5560A, or 5502A to 5540A due to their technical differences in functions, features and performance. Do reach out to our sales channels to explore for the best solutions when you want to do an upgrade / replacement through other exciting programs.

(Ans) The installable optional function for these calibrators is the oscilloscope calibration option, which is commonly known as Scope Cal (SC) option. Different bandwidth up to 600MHz (available for 5560A, 5550A, 5540A), 1GHz (available for 5560A, 5550A) and 2.1 GHz (only available for 5560A) are available.

(Ans) The approved and authorized service centres who are capable to do the upgrade, calibration, and offer repair services on the 5560A, 5550A and 5540A are strategically located Everett (WA, USA), Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Singapore & and Beijing (China).

(Ans) The 5502A (Basic)(PQ) and 5522A (Basic)(PQ) had been discontinued since 15th May 2023. The respective scope calibration (SC) option for 5502A and 5522A will be discontinued with effective from 15th December 2023.
